What to expect during Open House

September 07, 2017

Open House: A day entirely dedicated to fun campus tours, exciting information fairs and sessions. No matter where your interests may be, chances are the Open House has a session especially for you. But Open House is way more than tours and information overload, it’s about taking the first step into your future!

The next Admissions Open House will be on Saturday, September 23, so in order to get you prepared, here is a quick run-down of things you can expect while visiting Lees-McRae!

The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with check-in and an overview of the day. Head on over to Evans Auditorium, grab a seat and relax!

Next up is the campus tour! For the next hour you will be grouped off and assigned an admission counselor. They will be the one to lead you and your group through campus, point out important buildings and locations all while teaching you an interesting fact or two along the way. Don’t worry, if there is adverse weather, you can still tour campus right from your seat during our virtual campus tour.

At 10:30 a.m. you’ll head across campus to the newly renovated Dotti M. Shelton Learning Commons for the Academic Program Information Fair. Enjoy a refreshment as you learn about all the different programs and get to know our expert faculty.

Next up, Financial Aid Presentation! For this, there will be two sessions (one at 11 a.m. and another starting at 11:30 a.m.). You don’t need to stray far from the Academic Program Fair–you’ll head upstairs to room 202 to learn how a Lees-McRae education can truly be financially possible for you.

Head back down the stairs to room 120 in the Dotti M. Shelton Learning Commons for the Student Life Presentation! Similar to the Financial Aid Presentation, there will be two sessions at 11 a.m. and another at 11:30–pick which of the two you’d like to head to first and then the other second. You get to design your day to how it best fits your individual needs.

The above is the bulk of the main Open House, but that isn’t all that we can offer for you! Throughout the course of the day, you can travel to every corner of campus to learn about specific programs and tour their facilities. After all, you could be spending the next few years in these places, isn’t it important to check it out first?

Optional activities kick-off at 11 a.m., where you can complete a free application to Lees-McRae! And who doesn’t love free? Take advantage of that free application in room 217 of the Learning Commons.

From there, enjoy a free lunch (you can pick up your lunch ticket at the Academic Fair) at MacDonald Dining Hall before heading to one (or a few!) of the following sessions:

  • 12 p.m.—Tour and information session of Wildlife Biology Program at the Elk Valley Preserve and Field Station. Meet shuttles at Elk Valley Baptist Church, 2545 Banner Elk Highway at 11:45 a.m.
  • 12:15 p.m.—Tour of May School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Meet at MacDonald Dining Hall.
  • 1 p.m.—Tour and information session of Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Meet shuttles at Williams Gymnasium, 7990 Hickory Nut Gap Road, at 12:45 p.m.
  • 1 p.m.—Theatre Arts Studies and Theater Arts Education Scholarship Auditions*. Meet outside MacDonald Dining Hall at 12:45 p.m. to travel to the Dance Studio in the Theatre Arts Building. *Accompanist will be available if needed.
