Lees-McRae to honor veterans with annual Veterans Day ceremony on campus

Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to join Lees-McRae in a special Veterans Day ceremony to honor past and present members of the United States Armed Forces. This event will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 in Miller Commons.

“We count veterans among our students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, and members of the local community. As the president of the college, I want you to know how grateful I am and how grateful we are for your service,” President Lee King said at the 2021 Veterans Day ceremony.

In addition to taking a historical look at the holiday, the ceremony will include words from a current Online Criminal Justice major at Lees-McRae. All are welcome to attend the event and help the college honor, recognize, and express gratitude for the men and women who have, or are currently, serving.

Following the official ceremony, the Bobcat Functional Fitness Club will host a commemorative workout at the Veterans Memorial at 2 p.m. The workout will be held in honor of veterans, specifically bringing awareness to the issue of veteran suicide.

The workout will be scalable to any fitness level and is open to anyone in the Lees-McRae community who is interested in participating. Those who would like to take part in the commemorative workout should contact Instructor of Criminal Justice Derrick Lail for additional information and applicable waivers.
